Proto-Speed Control™
is a cruise control feature that continuously makes adjustments to maintain a steady locomotive speed, much like a real engineer does when traveling over variable terrain. It is standard in both Proto-Sound 2.0 and Loco-Sound engines, and it can be disarmed if you want to double-head your engine with a non-Speed Control-equipped engine.

In Proto-Sound 2.0 Command Mode, you gain enhanced speed control when operating your engine with the DCS Digital Command System that lets you set the locomotive's speed in one scale mph increments. A total of 120 speed steps are available in each Proto-Sound 2.0 equipped locomotive giving the user a theoretical speed range of 1 to 120 scale miles per hour. In reality, gearing and motor tolerances in the locomotive may not allow smooth operation at speeds below 4 scale miles per hour resulting in jerky or hesitant movement. Every M.T.H. Proto-Sound 2.0 equipped locomotive has been optimized for smooth slow speed performance beginning at 4 scale miles per hour or higher.
