June 23, 2010 - The Southern Pacific Daylight trains linked Los Angeles and San Francisco "in a glorious daylight trip, streaking along the Pacific Ocean for more than a hundred breathless miles." At long last, M.T.H.'s HO Daylight passenger cars have begun shipping. Click on the video icon to the left to see the cars in action.

Travelers riding these magnificent trains were invited to "Step inside the Daylight and see the beauty and luxury that have already won the West." Presenting a glorious streak of orange and red from locomotive to observation car, the Daylights were a sharp departure from the SP's normal dark olive passenger cars.

Leading the trains were the Southern Pacific's class GS (for "Golden State") Northerns, arguably among the handsomest steam engines ever built. Class GS-4 engines, delivered in 1941 and 1942, were among the last and best-looking of the breed, with tall 80" drivers and enclosed all-weather cabs.

M.T.H.’s Southern Pacific Daylight HO passenger sets were designed to be the best looking, best rolling HO passenger sets you can buy for the money. We believe the value in these sets cannot be matched by any other passenger cars produced today. To see for yourself, check out the detail photos below.

Available in Southern Pacific and Southern Pacific Lines livery, HO fans can purchase 8-car sets and a variety of add-on car configurations to complete the famed Daylight consists that ran behind the famous Gs-4 steam engines.

Each car features full car interior detail mounted atop what may be the smoothest rolling trucks you’ll find on an HO passenger car. Our working end-of-car diaphragms are flexible enough for 22” radius curve operation. Flicker-free overhead interior lighting complements the interior detail and lighted marker lights, flashing end of train light and lighted drumhead on the observation car ensure that this train is one you won’t soon forget.

The HO Daylight add-on passenger cars began shipping to MTH Authorized Retailers in June. Full 8-car sets will begin arriving in July and will make an excellent complement to the MTH HO Gs4 steam engines released in 2009 or the MTH Alco PA diesels slated for release later in 2010.
